Remuneration: £2,500 for project

Contract type: Freelance

Reporting to: Designer & Programme Manager and Strategic Lead

Team: Design and Innovation, as part of Programme

V&A Dundee’s Design & Innovation team runs a Design Thinking Accelerator programme which enrolls professionals from a wide variety of industries including both private and public sector. Programme participants work through live organisational challenges using Design Thinking tools and frameworks.

We are looking for a designer who can create a B2B programme identity with a related suite of assets that will be used throughout every stage of the programme experience. This includes: Awareness building and promotion of the programme in the first instance, the tools instruction and presentation of course information to be used in the running of the programme assets which support further use of the tools and a secondary learning journey such as a tangible toolkit and digital resources following on from the course. The outputs must be cost effective and practical. They should promote buy in to the Design Process and tie up existing Design Thinking Accelerator assets into one new identity.

Role profile

Working with the Design & Innovation team, the designer will create an accessible, forward-looking identity for B2B use that is tailored to engage professionals in the Design Process. The design concept should interact with and take inspiration from the practical tools used in the workshop sessions such as sticky notes, brown/white paper, sharpies, bulldog clips etc.

In order to successfully engage our target audiences, the design suite should be: clean, contemporary, professional, welcoming, bold, dynamic and innovative to ensure that we design the right thing for our audiences. Its important that the designer engages with facilitators, programme team and participants of the programme as they research and refine their output.

Indicative deliverables:

We require a project identity and asset suite that will a work across multiple formats, including:

1. A practical and cost-effective Design Thinking Toolkit to support the next stage in the participants’ Design Thinking journey, including:

Print assets:

  • A card deck which will provide instruction on the frameworks used within the programme. We estimate that this will be a maximum of 35 cards per deck.

  • Large scale editable templates of the programme’s design thinking frameworks which would be printed to include in the toolbox (depending on cost this element may be re-evaluated)

    • This includes the re-design of existing frameworks to align with the new identity

  • An A5 or similar sized notebook with designed cover. No bigger than 50 pages which can be combined with the toolkit at the end of the programme.

  • Place/holder for sticky note pad(s) and one sharpie pen

  • Designer to include quotes and print specs as part of their pitch at a later date.

2. A set of assets to be used across digital platforms, including website/social channels as well as PowerPoint. Formats include:

  • Individual editable templates of Design Thinking Frameworks, where text can be altered where required.

  • A PDF version of the contents of the card deck which can be used as an online booklet to send to clients, designed to be easily legible on screen.

  • Webpage Banner (2560px x 1440px) - visuals only, no text to be included as website automatically places title over the top.

  • Social media assets x 3 formats (1:1, 16:9, 9:16) - a start and end card along with template for the museum Content Team to populate.

  • PowerPoint/Google Sheets Template (16:9) with sections to host information such as:

    • images and explanations of clients’ analogue work

    • facilitation instruction

    • report contents

  • A4 report template

  • Individual asset files for the above graphic design work so that the team can revise text and framework content where needed

There may be deliverables which require discussion with the commissioning team to refine further detail on the proposed outputs. We want to work with the designer as part of a collaborative process to ensure that we design the right outputs for the programme and understand that good design requires research and flexibility.
