The Media and Marketing Assistant (Abertay Graduate) will gain a solid grounding in all aspects of the Audiences & Media department by assisting the media, marketing and digital content teams to help inform future career direction. This post is supported by Abertay University as a founding partner of V&A Dundee and is open to graduates of Abertay University within the last 3 years.

Role profile

The Audiences & Media department is responsible for strategically building the profile and reputation of V&A Dundee to audiences and stakeholders as well as driving visits and engagement.

This includes a programme of integrated, proactive communications, media relations and brand management as well as marketing and tourism promotion to local and international markets. The team develops new and existing audiences through a creative programme of content distributed across multiple channels and touchpoints.

The team manages all media enquiries, marketing campaigns, film, photography, social media platforms and the website.

Duties and Responsibilities


Communications and media (40%)

  • Support photo calls and media opportunities, working with journalists, designers and external partners
  • Support the writing and approval of media materials, such as press releases and articles
  • Support filming opportunities, including V&A Dundee’s internal film production and external production teams
  • Support with the management of digital assets, including photography and film delivered by external suppliers
  • Help develop creative ideas to promote V&A Dundee, including for news stories, feature ideas and broadcast (TV and radio)
  • Co-ordinate the digital filing of media coverage, to allow the impact of media coverage to be reported
  • Support internal communications, including the production of all-staff emails and organisation of regular all-staff sessions

Marketing and digital (40%)

  • Contribute to the delivery of the integrated marketing, communications and content plan to promote the museum offer (exhibitions, events, retail and food and beverage offer)
  • Help develop V&A Dundee’s audiences by supporting social media and e-news campaigns, with responsibility for tactical student marketing communications and promotions
  • Work with external designers and suppliers to produce on site promotional materials and signage.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of images and marketing assets, working with designers and external agencies
  • Co-ordinate print delivery, including museum guides and visitor information, working with external printers and distribution partners
  • Support management of the Sprout social media in-box, responding to day to day enquiries
  • Support marketing and tourism events
  • Represent the museum at Freshers Week events across the city
  • Opportunity to develop campaigns driven by personal audience interest ie design community, families etc

Administrative support (20%)

  • Support the effective running of the department by co-ordinating departmental meetings, diaries and other duties as required
  • Support team members with administrative arrangements for events, presentations and media opportunities

Essential

  • Clear communication skills

  • Ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work hard
  • Academic study/work experience/professional experience relevant to this role
  • An ability to work confidentially, handling sensitive information
  • Interest in design, culture and the arts

Deadline for applications: no later than 10.00, 12 June 2023. Successful candidates who are progressed to interview will be asked to take part in a written test.  

This is a full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week working in a hybrid flexible environment with a mixture of home working and working from our museum in Dundee.
